Steve Nicholson has been a contributor to ROTG since the early 1992 and took over as editor in September 1996. Before writing for ROTG, he formed and edited the newsletter for the Avon Based Argyle supporters' club, PASTA.
Born in June 1958, Argyle wasn't Steve's first footballing love. In fact prior to England's World Cup win in 1966, he was an ardent fan of rugby union. The World Cup changed all that, and for the first half of 1966/67 he was a regular at The Dell watching Southampton play. Fortunately, the family then moved to Malta otherwise he'd probably be a Saints fan now!! In Malta, he was a regular at Gzira Stadium watching all the Maltese teams - Hibernian, Sliema Wanderers, Hamrun Spartans, Valletta City - but his favourite was Floriana.
Floriana played in green and white, and when the family returned to the UK in 1969, lived in Plymouth. It was only natural to support the local team, even though Steve had no real affinity with Plymouth as a city. Over forty years and over a thousand games later, and he still follows the boys in green. Steve has seen Argyle play at 130 different grounds over the years, including in Sweden and Austria.
Away from football, Steve enjoys seeing bands live, which he has done since the days of Cockney Rebel at the Van Dijk club in Plymouth in the early seventies. Still gigging as often as possible, his two kids also go to gigs - often the same ones. Both Sarah and Joe have contributed to the fanzine over the years, as well as Steve's father, also Joe.
Steve lives in bath these days with wife of 31 years, Debra, and *children* Sarah 25 and Joe 17. Although relegation was a blow, it was inevitable and Steve is actually looking forward to 2010/11 with so many local games
